Conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch said on 20 Aug 2025 that it has opened a broad investigation into federal and state oversight of Commercial Driver’s License rules, citing repeated failures that it says allow unqualified drivers onto U.S. roads. The organization said the probe will review how trucking companies and licensing authorities vet applicants, with particular attention to allegations that foreign or undocumented drivers have obtained CDLs without meeting statutory requirements. Judicial Watch pointed to a recent claim by a Kentucky Department of Motor Vehicles employee, who says she was fired after revealing a scheme that issued driver’s licenses to undocumented workers using forged documents, as evidence of lax enforcement. Judicial Watch said it will seek public records from the U.S. Department of Transportation, state motor-vehicle agencies and major trucking carriers, and will publish its findings. Federal transportation officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
