Severe flash flooding across Milwaukee and several Midwest states led to the cancellation of the final day of the Wisconsin State Fair in August 2025, ending a streak of over one million attendees. The flooding caused widespread power outages, forced motorists to abandon vehicles, and resulted in multiple road closures. Water rescues were reported in Milwaukee as the city experienced a historic 1,000-year flood event, which also caused the largest sewer overflow since the installation of the Deep Tunnel system. The flood inflicted substantial damage on local infrastructure, including classrooms at Riverside High School and catastrophic damage at Journeys Lutheran School. Additionally, 15 food pantries in Milwaukee and Waukesha were closed due to flood damage. In response, Senator Tammy Baldwin toured affected homes and called for FEMA assistance, while also urging Ascension Wisconsin to reconsider outsourcing ICU physician staffing. Milwaukee officials, including Mayor Johnson and County Executive Crowley, have begun efforts to address the aftermath and recovery from this devastating flood.
