A proposal has been put forward for the United States to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve, potentially purchasing up to $200 billion in Bitcoin using 'Bit Bonds.' The strategy, detailed by Newmarket Capital's CEO, involves issuing $2 trillion in U.S. government bonds and allocating a portion to Bitcoin acquisition as a digital asset hedge. This approach aims to bolster reserves without raising taxes or increasing the money supply, leveraging global demand for dollar-denominated debt. Industry leaders, such as the CEO of MARA Holdings, have emphasized the importance of a U.S. Bitcoin reserve for national competitiveness, noting that other countries have started accumulating Bitcoin. The White House has acknowledged a 'space race' among nations to acquire the cryptocurrency. White House Deputy Kaelan Dorr described Bitcoin as 'very important,' stating, 'We're going to mine more Bitcoin, we're going to need more energy,' and referred to Bitcoin as 'F-you money,' highlighting its libertarian and responsible government appeal. Coinbase has suggested the United States may soon buy $100 billion in Bitcoin. The discussion comes as the U.S. faces $34 trillion in national debt and considers launching a sovereign wealth fund similar to those in Norway or China. Changpeng 'CZ' Zhao, former CEO of Binance, has said he is advising multiple countries pro bono on establishing crypto strategic reserves, noting that the U.S. decision to create a Bitcoin reserve has prompted global interest. Zhao pointed to Bhutan's adoption of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as part of its reserves and remarked that Europe, except for Montenegro, has largely not participated in these discussions.

Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao said he's been advising countries pro bono on how to start their own crypto reserves. Now that the U.S. has started, "the later you do it, the more expensive your crypto will be.” Read more: https://t.co/ng6ra3JPZ3
