Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is advocating for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to use funds from the One Big Beautiful Bill to purchase, own, and operate its own fleet of airplanes. This initiative aims to accelerate and increase the efficiency of deportations of undocumented immigrants. Current deportation efforts have seen daily removals rise to nearly 1,500 in early August, although daily arrests have decreased to below 1,000 since June. The Trump administration is projected to deport approximately 400,000 individuals by the end of 2025, which falls short of ICE's target of one million deportations for the year. The acquisition of a dedicated fleet of deportation aircraft is seen as a measure to help reach a goal of 30,000 to 35,000 deportations more rapidly.
