Chef Robotics, a San Francisco-based startup founded in 2019 by Rajat Bhageria, has raised a $43.1 million Series A funding round. The round includes $20.6 million in equity led by Avataar Ventures and $22.5 million in equipment financing debt, aimed at scaling its Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) model. Chef Robotics has deployed its robotic systems in food manufacturing plants, producing over 40 million meals to date. The robots, equipped with proprietary utensils and AI-driven learning capabilities, are designed for high-mix production environments, improving labor productivity by 17%, product consistency by 12%, and reducing food giveaway by 4%. Clients include Amy's Kitchen, Sunbasket, and Chef Bombay. The company plans to expand its operations to the UK in 2025 and explore applications in diverse environments such as stadiums, cruises, and ghost kitchens. Its technology leverages diffusion models and deep learning to adapt to various food textures and tasks, including delicate ingredient handling and complex motions like spreading or scooping.
