Funding for female-founded startups in South Florida surged in 2024, with a total of $577 million raised across 85 deals, according to data from Pitchbook's 2024 US All In report. This represents a 270% increase from the $156 million raised in 2023, though it remains below the peak funding years of 2021 and 2022. Nationally, female founders raised nearly $38.8 billion in 2024, a 27% increase from the previous year. However, the share of venture capital awarded to female-founded companies dropped to 19.9%, and the deal count decreased by 13.1%. All-female teams raised $3.7 billion across 813 deals, while all-male teams raised $154 billion across 9,340 deals. In South Florida, startups with all-female founders raised $145 million of the total $577 million. Seed-stage startups with female founders accounted for 41 of the 85 deals and attracted $112 million, while startups that raised Series A rounds secured $123 million over 21 deals. Later-stage startups (Series B and higher) raised $342 million over 23 deals. Collectively, these startups accounted for 21% of what South Florida startups raised in total, and by deal count, 23.7%. All-female startups in the Miami metro accounted for 5% of the total, a larger share than the national trend. Notable deals in South Florida included Finally, a financial platform for businesses, which raised $200 million in equity and debt, and NovoPayment, a financial services startup, which secured $40 million. The rise in funding for female-founded startups comes amidst a broader trend of increased entrepreneurial activity among women, spurred by the economic shifts following the global health crisis. Despite progress, challenges remain in securing investment, particularly for all-female teams.
