I have a very simple investment thesis: 1. Markets with low competition. 2. Where the incumbents are stuck on antiquated tech stacks and can’t/won’t change. 3. Who also have terrible talent brands. Do the best engineers go “yay, I can’t wait to work at X”. Holy grail. 🚀
I find it amusing when I see the # of companies going after Shopify, Stripe, Adyen. Of all incumbents, you thought Tobi, the Collisons and Pieter were the ones to hunt down… with the insane talent brands their companies have… Secret to success is low competition.
I’m particularly excited to see more competition to publicly traded companies, even those we called startups just a decade ago. Startups take the best people and customer insights, and go faster without all the org/process/tools cruft!
Stripe, a payment processing company, has crossed $1 trillion in volume, representing a small percentage of the market. The company has developed products to assist customers in generating more revenue. Competitors are emerging to challenge established companies like Shopify and Adyen. Investors praise Stripe's success and innovative approach to business.
