Towns, a decentralized social protocol often described as a decentralized version of Discord, is set to launch its native cryptocurrency token, $TOWNS, in the second quarter of 2025. The project has raised a total of $35.5 million, with Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) leading the investment and Framework Ventures also participating. The total supply of $TOWNS tokens will be 10 billion, with 10% allocated for an initial airdrop. The token distribution includes 57% for the community (5.7 billion tokens), 35% for team and investors (3.5 billion tokens), and 8% for initial node operators and delegators (800 million tokens). The $TOWNS tokens will be issued on both the Base chain and Ethereum. The airdrop details are expected to be finalized in the second quarter, though the snapshot timing remains uncertain. The protocol allows users to create community spaces, pay to join on-chain spaces, and engage in encrypted private messaging.
