VanEck has launched a new venture capital fund, VanEck Ventures, with $30 million in assets under management. The fund will focus on investing in early-stage startups in the fields of cryptocurrency, artificial intelligence, and fintech. Managed by Wyatt Lonergan and Juan Lopez, both of whom previously worked at Circle Ventures, the fund aims to invest between $500,000 and $1 million in up to 35 startups. The investment thesis posits that stablecoins will develop into an 'open-source banking layer'. This initiative expands VanEck's existing portfolio, which includes various crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and private funds.
