A large roadside billboard offering U.S. rewards of US$50 million for Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and US$25 million for senior official Diosdado Cabello appeared on 23 Aug. along the international highway that connects Cúcuta, Colombia, with Venezuela, according to local media footage and eyewitness accounts. The sign replicated notices previously issued by the U.S. Departments of State and Justice, which accuse Maduro of leading the ‘Cartel de los Soles’ narcoterrorist network and have raised the reward for information leading to his arrest from US$25 million to US$50 million. Cabello, a key Maduro ally, remains subject to a separate US$25 million bounty. Witnesses said the billboard was dismantled within hours by an unidentified individual. Colombian authorities have not commented publicly on who authorised the installation or removal. The incident highlights mounting pressure from Washington, where officials have reiterated that Maduro is a fugitive and that all options remain on the table to bring him to justice.
