Atari has purchased the intellectual-property rights to five legacy Ubisoft titles—Cold Fear, Child of Eden, I Am Alive, Grow Home and its sequel Grow Up—in a deal aimed at reviving the dormant games for contemporary audiences. The publisher said it will re-release the titles under the Atari label on “modern platforms,” and is evaluating additional opportunities to expand each franchise with updated formats, new content and broader distribution. “We’re excited to reintroduce these titles while also exploring ways to expand and evolve these franchises,” Atari chairman and chief executive officer Wade Rosen said in a joint statement. Ubisoft, which has focused in recent years on its larger series such as Assassin’s Creed, positioned the sale as a chance for the older properties to find new life. “This will open the door for longtime players to revisit these memories while inviting new audiences to discover them,” said Deborah Papiernik, vice president of new business at Ubisoft. The acquisition continues Atari’s strategy of leveraging both its heritage and external catalogs; the company also owns Nightdive Studios, known for modern remasters such as the recent System Shock remake. Financial terms of the Ubisoft deal were not disclosed, and release timelines for the rereleases have yet to be announced.
