Atari has resurrected its 1990s mascot with the announcement of “Bubsy 4D,” a new 3D platformer unveiled during the Gamescom Opening Night Live preshow. The project marks Bubsy’s first fully three-dimensional outing since 1996’s widely panned “Bubsy 3D.” Development is being handled by indie studio Fabraz, best known for the platformer “Demon Turf.” Atari said the game will launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, the forthcoming Switch 2 and PC. A release date was not disclosed. According to a synopsis provided by Atari, the bobcat’s longtime adversaries, the Woolies, have stolen Earth’s sheep, triggering an intergalactic chase in which players collect yarn balls, master an expanded moveset and upload speed-run times to online leaderboards. Fabraz founder Fabian Rastorfer said the team aimed to ‘take the challenge seriously’ after the original’s infamous reputation while retaining Bubsy’s irreverent tone.
