Konami’s long-anticipated remake of its 2004 stealth classic arrives this month as Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, launching 28 August on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, the project preserves Hideo Kojima’s original story and voice work while adding contemporary visuals, a modern control scheme and an optional legacy mode that mimics the PlayStation 2 camera and mechanics. Early reviews point to a broadly positive reception. VGC awarded four stars, calling Delta “an excellent, if safe, remake,” while GameSpot and Eurogamer praised its faithful restoration of the Cold War thriller. TechRadar and Tom’s Guide lauded the graphical overhaul, though Digital Foundry highlighted frame-rate dips and a disappointing PSSR upscaling implementation on PlayStation 5 Pro. Beyond the visual upgrade, Konami has expanded the package with new extras. PlatinumGames produced a fully re-imagined version of the cult ‘Guy Savage’ nightmare sequence omitted from earlier re-releases, and three new Secret Theater parody cut-scenes join the unlockables. Quality-of-life tweaks let players swap camouflage or access the codec from the D-pad, while scars, mud and weather now persist across gameplay and cinematics. The remake marks Konami’s most significant Metal Gear release since creator Hideo Kojima left the company in 2015. Producers say that, should Delta perform well, the publisher will “consider lots of other games in the future,” positioning the title as a bellwether for further entries—and potentially additional remakes—within one of gaming’s best-known franchises.
