Alphabet Inc.’s Google has signed a multi-year agreement with Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry that makes the four-time NBA champion a performance adviser for Google Health and the company’s Fitbit wearable line. Under the partnership, Curry and his training staff will test Google’s personal health-coaching features, provide feedback on future Fitbit models and help refine algorithms that deliver personalised exercise and wellness advice. Google said insights from the collaboration will be used to “fine-tune products, train algorithms and design future product experiences.” The deal also involves sports-specific research: Curry will employ Google Cloud’s artificial-intelligence tools—branded as an “AI Basketball Coach” experiment—to analyse shot quality and design practice regimens, using Pixel phones and other devices to capture motion data. Financial terms and the exact length of the agreement were not disclosed.
