Tshifhiwa Matodzi, convicted fraudster and former chairperson of the failed VBS Mutual Bank, has accused former Treasury director-general Dondo Mogajane of receiving a R1-million bribe to help withdraw a letter from the National Treasury that instructed municipalities to stop depositing funds with the bank. Matodzi also alleged that VBS paid more than R16 million to EFF leaders Julius Malema and Floyd Shivambu through a front company to buy their silence and support. Additionally, former ANC treasurer-general Dr. Zweli Mkhize allegedly requested R2 million from Matodzi to help access funds from the Public Investment Corporation. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has launched an investigation into the leaking of an explosive affidavit by Matodzi, which details how money was looted from VBS. Mogajane has denied the bribery allegations.
