Google has announced the expansion of its AI capabilities with the launch of a dedicated mobile application for NotebookLM, set to be released on May 20, 2025, for both iOS and Android. NotebookLM, initially introduced as Project Tailwind in 2023, has evolved into a comprehensive AI research tool that now supports over fifty languages and offers features like audio overviews and integration with the new Gemini 2.5 Flash model. In addition to NotebookLM, Google has made significant updates to its AI Mode in Labs, which is now available to all US users without a waitlist. AI Mode enhances search capabilities, allowing users to ask more complex questions and receive detailed, reliable information about places and products, including visual place and product cards. Users can pre-order the NotebookLM app to get it as soon as it's available. Google is also developing a new feature called 'Live for AI Mode,' which integrates real-time voice conversation capabilities into AI Mode, similar to Gemini Live's Project Astra. This feature, currently in beta, will allow users to search using voice commands and share their screen or camera view for a more interactive search experience. Furthermore, Google has introduced Vertex AI Prediction Dedicated Endpoints, aimed at enhancing AI prediction tasks with dedicated networking, optimized network latency, and support for larger payloads and longer request timeouts.
