Hedra, a startup specializing in AI-powered video generation, has raised $32 million in a Series A funding round led by Andreessen Horowitz's Infrastructure fund. The company, which launched in 2023, is known for its Character-3 model that enables users to create over 10 million lifelike videos featuring AI-generated characters, including a viral trend of talking baby podcasts. The Series A round saw participation from existing investors such as a16z Speedrun, Index Ventures, and Abstract Ventures. Matt Bornstein from a16z will join Hedra's board, led by founder and CEO Michael Lingelbach. Earlier this year, Amazon backed the company through its Alexa Fund. The funding will be used to train the next model for better customization, develop technology allowing AI characters to interact with users, and enhance enterprise-focused workflows and video rendering infrastructure. Hedra's platform, powered by its omnimodal foundation model, has attracted significant user growth following the launch of the Character-3 model in March. The company aims to expand its workforce and focus on attracting creators and prosumers, while also receiving interest from enterprise marketing departments.
