OpenAI has released a study examining the impact of users' names on the responses generated by ChatGPT. The research, conducted using the GPT-4o model, analyzed patterns across millions of real conversations. The findings indicate that ChatGPT generally treats users equally, with only 0.1% of responses exhibiting harmful stereotypes linked to gender, race, or ethnicity. The study highlights that while subtle identity cues, such as names, can reflect cultural associations, they do not significantly alter the quality of responses. Researchers employed a language model research assistant (LMRA) to aid in bias detection during the analysis.
