SoftBank Group Chairman and CEO Masayoshi Son outlined a vision for the extensive deployment of AI agents capable of autonomous learning and self-replication during a recent event in Tokyo. Son described a future where billions of AI agents collaborate, set their own goals, and develop new AI technologies independently, potentially reaching numbers in the thousands of trillions or even higher. He emphasized that skepticism toward AI evolution limits future possibilities. Son also announced plans to integrate these AI agents extensively within SoftBank Group operations, effectively augmenting human work and tasks. In a discussion with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, both leaders highlighted the surging global demand for AI and the necessity to continuously expand computing capacity. Altman noted that reducing AI costs significantly would exponentially increase usage, necessitating new technologies and infrastructure to support scaling beyond current energy consumption levels.

"if we make the cost of AI 10 times cheaper, people wanna use it 30 times as much or whatever. And the demand for intelligence in the world just seems to be huge. As we think about scaling in the future, way beyond 10 gigawatts, we’ll need new technologies and new construction” https://t.co/MdFh1PbvcA
