Elon Musk States "It Does Not Make Sense For Tesla To Divide Its Resources And Scale Two Quite Different Ai Chip Designs"
According to Musk, it’s inefficient for Tesla to allocate resources to two distinct AI chip designs.
Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said the electric-vehicle maker is streamlining its semiconductor strategy and will concentrate resources on a single architecture covering its next-generation AI5 and AI6 chips. Musk stated that maintaining two separate artificial-intelligence chip designs “does not make sense” because it would dilute engineering capacity and slow progress. The shift aligns all internal development on the unified AI5–AI6 roadmap that underpins Tesla’s self-driving and high-performance training systems. A person familiar with the reorganisation added that Tesla’s Dojo supercomputing group has been folded into the Full Self-Driving team to accelerate development, and that Samsung is expected to fabricate the forthcoming AI6 chips. Tesla has not disclosed a production timeline or financial terms for the new hardware.
