Meta Platforms Inc. Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said the company’s Meta AI assistant has surpassed one billion monthly active users, underscoring the rapid adoption of its generative-AI tools across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger. The milestone, announced on July 30, comes roughly a year after Meta began embedding the large-language-model-based assistant into its social-media and messaging apps. Zuckerberg has positioned the technology as central to boosting user engagement and advertising opportunities, which together generated more than 98% of Meta’s $134 billion in 2024 revenue. Reaching a billion regular users puts Meta AI among the most widely used consumer AI products, rivaling the scale of the company’s flagship social platforms. Zuckerberg said continued investment in proprietary models and computing infrastructure will expand the assistant’s capabilities, including personalized recommendations, content creation and customer-service tools for businesses.
