OpenAI has rolled out a major upgrade to the “Projects” workspace inside ChatGPT, adding deep research assistance, a voice interaction mode, enhanced memory that can recall information from prior discussions, and the ability to upload files and switch models on mobile devices. Users can also share chats and convert existing conversations into new projects, tightening ChatGPT’s integration with day-to-day workflows. The company says the enhancements are aimed at making the assistant a more comprehensive tool for research, collaboration and content creation across both desktop and mobile platforms. By reducing friction between devices and expanding functionality, OpenAI is seeking to embed ChatGPT more deeply in professional and personal productivity tasks. ChatGPT went live 925 days ago—about two and a half years—and has since become the fastest-growing consumer application on record, according to Axios. Chief Executive Officer Sam Altman has said he intends to build an “insurmountable” lead reminiscent of Google’s early dominance in web search, and analysts believe the latest features could strengthen the network effects, scale advantages and switching costs that already separate OpenAI from its rivals.
