SoftBank Group has agreed to buy Foxconn’s manufacturing plant in Ohio for about $375 million and will convert the site into the first U.S. production base for its $500 billion Stargate artificial-intelligence infrastructure initiative with OpenAI and Oracle. Under the agreement, Foxconn—formally Hon Hai Precision Industry—will continue to run the facility, shifting output from electric-vehicle components to AI servers and other data-centre hardware. The companies plan to form a joint venture for the project, marking a strategic pivot as demand for high-performance computing equipment accelerates. Foxconn chairman Young Liu said the partners had been preparing the venture for more than six months and selected Ohio for its available power, space and timing advantages. Production is expected to begin once requisite utilities are in place, positioning the plant at the center of Stargate’s effort to build a nationwide network of AI data centers.
