Walmart Inc. has recruited Instacart Chief Product Officer Daniel Danker as executive vice president in charge of AI acceleration, product and design, effective next month. Danker will report directly to Chief Executive Officer Doug McMillon and lead efforts to scale artificial-intelligence tools across the world’s largest retailer’s stores, e-commerce platforms and logistics network. The appointment comes as Walmart overhauls its AI architecture. The company is consolidating dozens of task-specific systems into four unified “super agents” that will serve customers, employees, engineers and suppliers, the Wall Street Journal reported. The customer-facing agent, dubbed “Sparky,” is already operational, while the supplier tool “Marty” is slated to launch in the coming months; employee and engineer agents are targeted for 2026. Management says the streamlined platform will handle tasks ranging from payroll support and discount-card replacement to advertising automation and real-time supply analytics. John Furner, who heads Walmart’s U.S. business, said staying ahead of the technology curve is critical in a sector where leadership can shift rapidly. By pairing Danker’s consumer-technology background with its own scale, Walmart aims to sharpen personalization, curb costs and speed e-commerce growth.
