The Argentine government has officially initiated the privatization process of AySA, the state-owned water and sanitation company. The plan involves transferring 90% of AySA's shares to private capital, as announced by presidential spokesperson Manuel Adorni. This move is part of a broader strategy by President Javier Milei to transfer several public enterprises to private ownership. To facilitate the privatization, the government has restructured the regulatory framework governing AySA, including authorizing service disconnections for non-payment. These regulatory changes were enacted through Decree 493/2025, which also grants the state the authority to fully or partially divest its ownership in AySA. The privatization aims to introduce private investment into the company and is a key element of the administration's economic reform agenda.
