Ángel Di María marked his first derby since returning to Argentina with an 82nd-minute free-kick that gave Rosario Central a 1–0 home victory over arch-rivals Newell’s Old Boys. The World Cup winner’s curling strike settled a tense clásico at the Estadio Gigante de Arroyito, ending Central’s run of three consecutive draws. The result moves Miguel Russo’s side to third place in Group B of the Torneo Clausura on 10 points after six matches, keeping the club on course for Copa Libertadores qualification. Newell’s, winless in five, remain 11th on six points and face growing pressure as the domestic campaign approaches its midway point. Di María, who spent 18 years in Europe before rejoining his boyhood club, said the win fulfilled “a lifelong dream” and declared his next goal is to deliver a league title for Central.
