Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, has been actively engaging in a series of high-level events in Australia to strengthen ASEAN's partnerships with regional and global partners. On August 25 and 26, 2025, Dr. Kao delivered lectures and keynote addresses at the University of Adelaide and the Australia-ASEAN Business Forum 2025 in Adelaide, emphasizing the importance of deepening relations as comprehensive strategic partners, particularly between ASEAN and Australia. He highlighted opportunities for enhanced cooperation in economic collaboration, renewable energy, green economy, security, and tourism. Dr. Kao met with key figures including the Premier of South Australia, Peter Malinauskas MP, the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry CEO Andrew McKeller, and members of the ASEAN Committee in Canberra and the ASEAN-Australia Centre Advisory Board. He also participated in discussions on ASEAN-China tourism security and safety, underscoring security as a foundation for sustainable tourism development. Additionally, Dr. Kao addressed the growing partnership between ASEAN and India, noting shared visions and respect that strengthen ties. The Indonesia-India relationship was also highlighted, with recognition of deep cultural linkages symbolized by Sanskrit scripts and India’s role as a technologically capable and politically palatable middle power in the region. These engagements reflect ASEAN's strategic efforts to foster cooperation across economic, cultural, and security domains with key partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
