Samsung's chip business leader, Jun Young-hyun, has warned that Korea’s largest company risks getting caught in a 'vicious cycle' if it does not revamp its workplace culture. In response to employee demands and to retain talent, Samsung is reportedly planning a comprehensive reform of its Overall Performance Incentive (OPI) reward system. This warning comes amid increased competition from less integrated and more specialized chip firms, as well as Chinese companies encroaching on its low and middle-margin products, particularly in the display business. Despite a surge in profits from April to June, thanks to growth in its chip business, Samsung faces deeper challenges. Additionally, there has been internal criticism over Samsung's Apple-inspired designs, with even the chairman expressing dissatisfaction.
