2025 Awards Season Kicks Off Amid Cinema Decline; 'Intensamente 2' Earns $1.698 Billion, Total Box Office at $30.5 Billion

The 2025 awards season is underway, with key events such as the SAG Awards and Oscars approaching. The SAG Awards nominations have been revealed, while the Oscars will announce their nominees soon, with Conan O'Brien set to host the 97th edition. Despite a monumental year for cinema, highlighted by 'Intensamente 2' earning $1.698 billion at the box office, the global cinema market faced a decline in 2024, with total box office receipts falling below $1 billion in Australia due to Hollywood strikes. The overall box office for 2024 reached $30.5 billion, significantly lower than the $42.3 billion in 2019, raising concerns about the industry's recovery post-pandemic.
