Poll: Reserve Bank of Australia to reduce cash rate to 3.60% on July 8; 31 out of 37 economists, while six see no adjustment
A Reuters survey of 37 economists shows 31 expect the Reserve Bank of Australia to trim its cash rate by 25 basis points to 3.60% at its 8 July meeting. The median forecast in the poll also anticipates further easing to 3.10% by the end of 2025, down from a 3.35% projection in the May survey. Respondents said moderating inflation and sluggish consumer spending give the central bank scope to lower borrowing costs. Should lenders pass on the full cut, a borrower with a A$500,000 mortgage would save about A$1,613 a year, according to industry calculations.
