Outback Wrangler Host Matt Wright Convicted of Evidence Tampering in 2022 Crash
Australian reality-television figure Matt Wright was convicted on Friday of two counts of perverting the course of justice for interfering with the investigation into a February 2022 helicopter crash in Arnhem Land that killed his friend and ‘Outback Wrangler’ co-star Chris “Willow” Wilson and left pilot Sebastian Robinson paralysed. A Northern Territory Supreme Court jury in Darwin could not reach a verdict on a third count, and was discharged. Prosecutors said the 46-year-old Wright lied to police about the aircraft’s fuel load and urged the hospitalised Robinson to falsify flight-hour records, allegedly to shield himself from liability and avoid an overhaul they estimated could have cost as much as A$500,000. The defence argued Wright was being scapegoated for a crash caused by pilot error and signalled an appeal against the verdicts. Wright remains on bail while the court sets a sentencing date. The unresolved third charge may be retried at the prosecution’s discretion.
