RBA’s Hauser Warns Tariffs Hurt Growth as Bank Revamps Research

Reserve Bank of Australia Deputy Governor Andrew Hauser said the central bank is refreshing its research strategy and setting a new slate of priorities intended to guide future monetary-policy deliberations. Speaking at an event on Tuesday, Hauser stressed the "significant level of ambiguity" in the global economic outlook and said the RBA is "very, very focused" on developments in world trade. He warned that the impact of recently imposed tariffs is "profound" and will weigh on global growth. Hauser’s prepared remarks and subsequent questions did not address current interest-rate settings, suggesting policy guidance will remain unchanged until the RBA completes its research overhaul and gains greater clarity on international conditions.
