Volvo Cars said it will begin building its XC60 mid-size sport-utility vehicle at its plant in Ridgeville, South Carolina, from late 2026, marking the first time the company’s best-selling model will be manufactured in the United States. The automaker has invested about $1.3 billion in the site over the past decade. The facility already assembles the flagship EX90 electric SUV and the Polestar 3; adding the XC60, in mild-hybrid and plug-in-hybrid versions, will broaden its U.S. line-up. The XC60 represents more than one-third of Volvo’s U.S. sales, which rose 4.4% in the second quarter. U.S. deliveries of the model increased nearly 23% in the first half of 2025, underscoring its importance to the brand. “We’re proud we’ll soon be able to offer American families the XC60 they love, assembled here by American autoworkers,” said Luis Rezende, president of Volvo Cars Americas.
