Toyota Plans To Begin Electric Vehicle Production In Europe By 2028, Says Nikkei
Toyota Motor Corp. plans to start manufacturing battery-electric vehicles in Europe for the first time in 2028, according to Nikkei. The company intends to retool its factory in Kolín, Czech Republic, aiming for an annual capacity of roughly 100,000 units, the report said. The move would give the world’s largest carmaker a local production base as the European Union tightens emissions rules and prepares to ban sales of new combustion-engine cars in 2035. While regional demand for fully electric models has cooled this year, Toyota is positioning itself for a longer-term shift to zero-emission vehicles and to reduce reliance on imports that face transport costs and carbon tariffs.
