Alphabet’s autonomous-driving unit Waymo said it will launch a fully driverless ride-hailing service in Dallas in 2026, expanding its U.S. robotaxi network to a sixth metro area. Riders will be able to request 24/7 trips through the Waymo app in Jaguar I-PACE electric vehicles equipped with the company’s fourth-generation Waymo Driver system, which is already undergoing testing on Dallas streets. Fleet operations will be handled under a new multi-year agreement with Avis Budget Group, marking Waymo’s first large-scale partnership with a rental-car operator after previously relying on ride-hailing platforms such as Uber in some cities. Avis will provide depot infrastructure, vehicle maintenance and day-to-day readiness of the cars, allowing Waymo to scale service more quickly and support Dallas’s Vision Zero road-safety initiative. Waymo says its autonomous vehicles now complete more than 250,000 paid trips each week across Atlanta, Austin, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Francisco, and have logged over 100 million autonomous miles on public roads. The Dallas rollout follows announced plans to enter Miami and Washington, D.C., underscoring the company’s push to translate years of testing into commercial growth amid intensifying competition in the self-driving sector.
