Belo Horizonte Mayor Damião Finalizes Vilas and Favelas Appointments, Excludes PSD; PSOL Gains Culture Control; Requião and Son Join PDT

After three months of indecision, Belo Horizonte Mayor Damião finalized appointments for regional leadership in the Vilas and Favelas areas, excluding Barreiro. These appointments included politically active figures such as the son of a candidate, aides to a state deputy, and a former candidate in Sabará. The exclusion of the PSD party, led by Fuad Noman, from this round of nominations caused discomfort within the party's state leadership. Additionally, Damião appointed new president and vice-president of the Municipal Culture Foundation (FMC) after consulting with a PSOL city councilor linked to cultural issues. The mayor granted full control of the Culture department to PSOL while maintaining direct oversight of the City Council of Belo Horizonte (CMBH) coordination. The nomination of a PSDB affiliate revealed lingering tensions between the party and Damião, despite PSD's support for Fuad Noman's reelection, who had previously served in Minas Gerais' tucano administrations. Separately, Requião Filho officially joined the PDT alongside his father, Requião, a former governor and critic of President Lula's administration. The PDT's move to affiliate both Requião and his son follows a turbulent period for them within the PT party. Humberto Costa, current PT president, commented on the upcoming election for his successor.
