Brazil's National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) has suspended a program by Tools for Humanity that allowed users to receive cryptocurrency in exchange for biometric data, specifically iris scans. The decision follows concerns over privacy and consent, as many individuals were reportedly unaware of the purpose behind the service. The company had been paying users up to R$700 for each iris scan, with around 500,000 people participating in the program in São Paulo. ANPD's chief stated that the company will comply with local laws moving forward. The practice raised alarms among privacy advocates and regulatory bodies due to the sensitive nature of the data being collected.
