Santos FC defeated Desportiva Ferroviária 3–1 in a friendly on Thursday at Estádio Kléber Andrade in Cariacica, using the match to fine-tune its squad ahead of the Brazilian league’s resumption next week. Neymar opened the scoring from the penalty spot after 19 minutes and was withdrawn at half-time, completing 45 minutes in his first appearance since extending his contract with the club. Guilherme doubled the advantage on the half-hour mark following a move orchestrated by Neymar. Desportiva cut the deficit early in the second half through Mariano, but midfielder Diego Pituca restored the two-goal cushion in the 74th minute. The referee called the game off four minutes from time after repeated pitch invasions by spectators. The outing also marked the professional debut of 17-year-old Robinho Jr., who entered after the interval and supplied the pass that led to Pituca’s goal. The teenager is the son of former Brazil forward Robinho and is considered one of the club’s top prospects. Speaking at the interval, Neymar said he feels "much better than when I arrived" back at Santos last year and expects further improvement as he gains match fitness. Santos return to competitive action on 16 July, when they host Flamengo in the 14th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
