Petrobras has signed contracts worth R$ 4.9 billion to resume construction work on the Abreu e Lima Refinery in Pernambuco, including the development of the second processing unit, known as Trem 2. This project had previously been a focus of the Lava-Jato corruption investigation. Additionally, Petrobras announced a broader investment plan totaling R$ 33 billion for refining and petrochemical projects in the state of Rio de Janeiro, with the investments expected to generate approximately 38,000 direct and indirect jobs. The announcement was made in the presence of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Energy Minister Adolfo Silveira. The investments aim to expand refining capacity and improve infrastructure at the REDUQ refinery complex in Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro. The government emphasized the importance of these investments for regional economic growth and energy security, while also highlighting Petrobras's commitment to environmental responsibility. The projects are part of Petrobras's strategy to revitalize Brazil's refining sector through significant capital expenditure through 2029.
