BOE’s Bailey Says Split Vote Mirrors Market’s Balanced Rate Outlook

Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey said the Monetary Policy Committee’s split vote on the latest interest-rate decision is a “good reflection” of the finely balanced economic backdrop. In a Bloomberg Television interview, Bailey noted that financial markets are currently pricing the outlook for further policy moves at roughly 50-50, which he said mirrors the committee’s own divided assessment of inflation risks and growth prospects. He added that the central bank will continue to be guided by incoming data when determining the future path of rates.
