A series of investigations have revealed that the UK's property market and Dubai are major hubs for laundering illicit wealth. Nearly 40% of global dirty money is laundered in London and UK crown dependencies, with proceeds from bribery, theft, drugs, and other crimes flowing into the country. Despite the Criminal Finances Act 2017, no company has been prosecuted for tax evasion in the UK. The 'Dubai Unlocked' project, involving over 70 media outlets, has exposed how suspected drug traffickers, criminals, and individuals with alleged links to terrorist groups such as Hezbollah and Houthis own luxury properties in Dubai. A mega-leak of property records revealed that the UAE is a safe haven for these activities. The project also uncovered that some British criminals are purchasing luxury properties in Dubai, even from prison.
