Buckingham Palace marked Queen Camilla’s 78th birthday on 17 July by releasing a new portrait taken this month in the garden of Raymill House, her private residence in Wiltshire. The photograph, shot by longtime royal photographer Chris Jackson, shows the Queen in a turquoise Liberty-print dress, leaning on a gate and smiling in a meadow setting. Separately, King Charles III has conferred on his wife the honorary rank of Vice Admiral of the United Kingdom. Palace aides described the appointment, proposed by First Sea Lord Sir Gwyn Jenkins, as unprecedented because Camilla is the first woman to hold the designation, which acknowledges her support for the Royal Navy. London celebrated the occasion with a 41-gun salute in Green Park, while the monarch and Queen were expected to spend the day privately before a larger family gathering at the weekend. The couple, who marked their 20th wedding anniversary in April, recently hosted French President Emmanuel Macron during a state visit and are scheduled to take their annual summer break in Scotland.
