Britpop mainstay Oasis returned to the stage on 4 July, opening its Live ’25 reunion tour with a sold-out concert at Cardiff’s 74,000-capacity Principality Stadium. The set marked the first time brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher had performed together since the band’s 2009 split, closing a long-running feud that had kept one of the U.K.’s most successful groups dormant for 16 years. The Gallaghers led a two-hour show heavy on 1990s hits such as “Supersonic,” “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger.” A montage of tabloid headlines heralded the moment before the band launched into the opener “Hello,” with Liam greeting the crowd, “It’s good to be back.” Apart from a brief embrace during the encore, the siblings kept interaction minimal, but fan reaction suggested the reconciliation was enough: mass sing-alongs carried much of the 24-song set. Cardiff is the first of 41 dates that will take Oasis through the U.K. and Ireland before stadium stops in North America, South America, Asia and Australia, with the tour scheduled to end in São Paulo on 23 November. Demand has been intense—Ticketmaster says it sold about 900,000 seats after 14 million purchase attempts—prompting the U.K. competition watchdog to examine the company’s dynamic-pricing model. No new material has been announced, and the band is presenting the trek as a one-off celebration of its catalogue.
