Oasis launched their Live ’25 reunion tour at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on 4 July, performing together for the first time in 16 years before a crowd of about 74,000. Midway through the set, brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher paused to dedicate the 1994 hit “Live Forever” to Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota, projecting an image of the late Liverpool forward across the venue’s screens. The tribute was echoed earlier in the evening by Liverpudlian support act Cast, whose frontman John Power dedicated the song “Walkaway” to Jota. Fans responded by holding Portugal flags aloft and raising drinks in salute, turning the opening night of the tour into an impromptu memorial. Jota, 28, and his younger brother Andre Silva were killed on 3 July when a tyre blew on their Lamborghini near Zamora, Spain, causing the vehicle to leave the road and catch fire. The accident occurred just 11 days after the player married long-term partner Rute Cardoso and days before he was due to rejoin Liverpool for pre-season training. Liverpool FC has postponed preparations, and tributes have poured in from teammates, supporters and figures across sport and music.
