Warren Buffett is giving away about $6 billion of Berkshire Hathaway stock, converting 12.36 million Class B shares for transfer to five charitable foundations. The shares, worth $485.68 apiece at Friday’s close, are scheduled to be delivered on 30 June 2025 and represent the investor’s single largest annual gift since he began large-scale philanthropy in 2006. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust will receive 9.43 million shares. The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation is slated for 943,384 shares, while the Howard G. Buffett, Sherwood and NoVo foundations—each led by one of Buffett’s children—will obtain 660,366 shares apiece. The latest distribution lifts Buffett’s lifetime giving to the five organisations to more than $60 billion. He still owns about 13.8 % of Berkshire and says he has no plans to sell any of the remaining shares. Under a revised will, roughly 99.5 % of his estate will ultimately flow to charity through a trust that his three children will manage unanimously. Buffett, who has led Berkshire since 1965, has said he intends to step down as chief executive at the end of 2025.
