President Donald Trump told a Cabinet meeting that Meta Platforms intends to spend about $50 billion on its “Hyperion” data-center complex under construction in rural Richland Parish, Louisiana. Trump displayed an image of the facility supplied by Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg and said the project would cover an area comparable to most of Manhattan. The social-media company had previously said only that its investment in Hyperion would exceed $10 billion. A Meta spokesperson declined to comment on Trump’s higher figure. Earlier this month, Bloomberg reported that Pacific Investment Management Co. and Blue Owl Capital are leading roughly $29 billion in financing for the site, which is expected to become Meta’s largest center for artificial-intelligence workloads. Big-tech spending on computing infrastructure continues to accelerate. Google separately announced a $9 billion program running through 2026 to build a new data center in Chesterfield County, Virginia, and expand existing facilities in Loudoun and Prince William counties, reinforcing the industry’s race to secure power-hungry capacity for next-generation AI services.
