Several Canadian provinces, including Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador, have implemented strict restrictions and bans on outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and camping in wooded areas due to an elevated risk of wildfires. Nova Scotia and New Brunswick have prohibited access to forests, while Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador have imposed provincewide burn bans. The bans have been justified by provincial leaders on grounds of wildfire prevention and public safety, with New Brunswick Premier Susan Holt citing concerns about emergency response capabilities if injuries occur in the woods. Newfoundland Premier John Hogan has rejected a full woods ban but increased fines for fire violations, emphasizing enforcement through penalties rather than access restrictions. Fines for violating wildfire restrictions can reach up to $28,000. The bans have faced criticism and skepticism regarding their rationale, with some officials changing their stated justifications, ranging from fire prevention to injury risks and sudden wildfire dangers. Additionally, Nova Scotia has been reported to be spraying large areas of forest with glyphosate-based herbicides during drought conditions, raising concerns about environmental and health impacts. Nova Scotia MP Jessica Fancy-Landry has called for even higher fines to enforce the bans effectively. The federal government and media often link wildfires to climate change, but provincial data attribute over 50% of fires in Nova Scotia to arson.
Nova Scotia MP calls for higher fines for violating climate lockdown Nova Scotia residents continue to face sweeping bans on outdoor activities in forested areas, at the risk of $25,000 fines — which, according to MP Jessica Fancy-Landry, are “not high enough” to adequately https://t.co/EJIxAkOT2z
For real Nova Scotia is spraying massive quantities of an herbicide that kills ALL VEGETATION (glyphosate) and pretending its a pesticide on public documents. This might be criminal. Little Timmy gets busted again. https://t.co/Lc78ytIEV3
So Nova Scotia is spraying glyphosate on its forests (herbicide) being VERY secretive about it (you cant click on the permits to get details and they call it pesticide) and MOST of its fires are caused by arson. I am NOT a conspiracy guy.....but WOW!
