Home-security footage from 8 Aug 2025 shows a three-year-old Pomeranian named Scout chasing a black bear out of his owners’ house in Vancouver, British Columbia. The video, supplied by homeowner Kayla Kleine to the media company Storyful, captures the bear wandering through the kitchen before the six-pound dog sprints forward, barking and driving the much larger animal back through the yard. Kleine said the bear, a regular visitor to the property, had been helping itself to Scout’s food bowl before the confrontation. No injuries were reported, and wildlife officials were not called to the scene. British Columbia is home to an estimated 120,000 to 160,000 black bears—about a quarter of Canada’s total population—prompting authorities to urge residents to secure attractants such as garbage and pet food, even in urban areas like Vancouver.
