Actor John Goodman showcased a markedly slimmer physique at the 13 July Los Angeles premiere of the new animated film “Smurfs,” where he lends his voice to Papa Smurf. Wearing a navy suit on the Paramount Theater’s blue carpet, the 73-year-old confirmed that he has shed about 200 pounds—roughly half his peak body weight—since embarking on a long-term fitness plan nearly two decades ago. The movie, featuring additional voice work from Rihanna and James Corden, is scheduled to open in U.S. cinemas on 18 July. Goodman traces the transformation to 2007, when he stopped drinking and began focusing on portion control, cutting sugar and exercising up to six days a week. “I just stopped eating all the time,” he told ABC News in 2016, adding that boxing and regular walks remain central to his routine. In a 2023 Rolling Stone interview he estimated the total loss at 200 pounds, crediting steady habits rather than crash diets. The Emmy winner, who briefly paused filming earlier this year after a hip injury, said his goal has been to ‘live life better’ and maintain the energy needed for work.
