Chilean courts have handed down life sentences to the leadership of the Tren de Aragua criminal network operating in Chile. Carlos “Estrella,” identified as the gang’s leader, received a life sentence for kidnapping and murder, marking one of the harshest penalties against the group in South America. In total, 12 members of the gang were sentenced to prison terms that cumulatively amount to 300 years for crimes including homicide, kidnapping, and human trafficking. The Chilean judiciary described the trial as unprecedented. Additionally, one of the gang’s top ten most wanted members, known as “Junior Enano,” was discovered to have been imprisoned in Chile since 2023 under a false identity. Separately, Loren Chinchilla was captured in Colombia on charges related to aggravated fraud and criminal association in Venezuela. These developments reflect ongoing efforts by Chilean and regional authorities to dismantle the Tren de Aragua’s criminal operations.
